ACCESS

Access( Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators and Students Statewide) Distance learning is a tool used by Alabama Public High Schools to allow students to take course using the web and video conferencing technology. The access classroom is unlike regular online classes; teachers and students interact with one another much like in a traditional learning environment.

Access is beneficial because it gives students the opportunity to take classes with Alabama certified instructors that otherwise would not be offered in their schools.

ALEX

The Alabama Learning exchange (Alex) is an interactive website by the Alabama Department of Education. It provides teachers, parents, students and administrators easy access to lesson plans, educational activities, and web resources in a one location. It has a variety of lesson resources for all subjects and grade. Alex is also very user friendly and easy to navigate through. One would click on course of study to choose from an array of subjects then click web links, lesson plans, personal, or personal workspace to get started. The website even has links to Professional Learning and Distance learning.
ALEX is a useful tool for teachers. Teachers can log in to their account to access a personal workspace that allows them to create and save lesson plan. It provides those teachers who are just starting out with a sort of crutch that will allow them to lean on the website for help. This is important so students will not be penalized because their teachers lack experience as I did while in school. It also allow teacher to communicate with other teachers from across the state helping to put the state’s schools on one accord and improving educational standards throughout the state.
